The Changing Nature of Leadership

The fourth annual Student Diversity Leadership Conference

North Park University is committed to creating a learning environment that is shaped by and for the richly diverse world our graduates will one day lead. Our Christian, urban, and multicultural identity drives this passion, and encourages us to continue to provide opportunities like this event. Participants will be challenged to grow in the knowledge and skills needed to lead diverse campus organizations, as they also increase their competence in working with diverse individuals and groups. We hope to teach these individuals how to be agents of change on their campuses and in their communities.

Pastor Corey Brooks Sr.

We're pleased to welcome Pastor Corey Brooks Sr. as our keynote speaker to this year's conference.

Pastor Corey BrooksPastor Brooks may be best known as the "rooftop pastor" for spending 94 days living on the rooftop of a vacant Chicago motel to bring attention to the violence on the streets of his South Side neighborhood. He has now begun a walk across America to bring attention to this same problem of gun violence across the nation. This walk, and the efforts of Brooks's Project H.O.O.D., also aim to raise $15 million to build a community and economic development center in his South Side Chicago neighborhood. Brooks has identified four major problem areas that this center will confront: educational, economic, social, and spiritual. His vision is that this center will be a model that others can build on to combat these problems and the proliferation of gun violence in our nation's inner cities.

Brooks was recently honored as "Best Community Leader" by Steve Harvey's 10th Annual Hoodie Awards for his efforts in Chicago and across the country. He is the founder of New Beginnings Church of Chicago, an urban, non-deonimational church on Chicago's South Side. Over 3,000 members at New Beginnings work with Pastor Brooks and the church's leadership in engaging their inner-city neighborhood, addressing social, educational, econimic, and spiritual ills. Their ministry is one of offering hope to the seemingly hopeless.
