Computer Services | Email Overview

All North Park University accounts must have an associated email account to receive important University communications and notifications regarding account information.

Beginning in Summer 2009, students may choose between creating a North Park Vikings email account or associating your account with an external email address that you already check regularly.  You may view your current email settings and make changes via the NPYou personalized information and settings portal.

New Students and Students without a North Park Hosted Email Account

The following information applies to you if:

  1. You are a new student who is setting up their North Park account for the first time.
  2. You are a returning student who had previously provided an external email address (Gmail, Yahoo, etc) instead of creating a North Park Hosted Email Account (you do not use a @northpark.edu email address).

Students who are setting up a North Park email account for the first time will create a new Vikings email account.  The new Vikings email account includes …

  • A personally customized email address @vikings.northpark.edu - you select the name that comes before the @ in the address!
  • 10 GB of email storage on an Exchange email server
  • The option to set the same password for both your North Park network account and Vikings email account, or use separate passwords.
  • Easy email access via a rich web based email client at https://outlook.com/
  • Your Vikings email account is also a Microsoft Live ID which gives you access to Live SkyDrive (25GB of online storage), Office Live Workspace, and more (http://www.microsoft.com/liveatedu/student-email.aspx?locale=en-US&country=US#10).

Your new Vikings email account is separate from your North Park network account.  Your North Park network account username will continue to be in the standard format (typically the first initial of your first name followed by your full last name and possibly a number, followed by @northpark.edu – e.g. username@northpark.edu).

Your Vikings email account provides access to your email.  Your North Park network account username provides access to all other North Park services, including WebAdvisor, Blackboard, Helpdesk, and NPYou.

You will also continue to have the option of supplying an existing external email address (Gmail, Yahoo, etc) instead of creating a North Park Vikings email account.

Students with existing North Park Hosted Email Accounts

If you had previously created a North Park hosted email account, then your email continues to be hosted on a North Park Exchange Email server. Your email address continues to be the same as your North Park username (typically the first initial of your first name followed by your full last name and possibly a number, followed by @northpark.edu – e.g. username@northpark.edu), and you will use the same password. You may access your email, calendar, and contacts via Outlook Web Access at https://mail.northpark.edu/

There is currently not an easy way to transition your email, calendar and contacts from a previous North Park hosted email account to a new Vikings account.  We hope to provide an upgrade path in the future.

North Park Faculty/Staff Email Accounts

Email continues to be hosted on a North Park server for all North Park hosted faculty and staff email accounts, and all faculty and staff are encouraged to take advantage of these North Park email accounts.  North Park hosted email accounts for faculty and staff come with a 1GB quota, allowing for plenty of storage space.  Your email address will continue to be the same as your North Park username (typically the first initial of your first name followed by your full last name and possibly a number), including the @northpark.edu, and you will use the same password.

Faculty and Staff with a North Park hosted email account may use Microsoft Outlook on their North Park supplied computer to access your email, calendar, and contacts.  When using a non-NPU computer, you may access your email account via Outlook Web Access at https://mail.northpark.edu/
